Gin's Diaries

While at the Canberra show I was talking to a lady who had just become a grandmother she was looking at the kuppi dolls and we were both reminiscing about our childhood.  My grandmother Gin (that's Gin as in guinea pig but without the ea and of course pig) her name came about apparently because we could not say grandmother, Gin loved to keep a diary and every year one of us would buy the Women's Weekly diary for her as a Christmas Present.  The year I was married I bought her the May Gibbs diary.

Gin would write in the diary every day about what was happening in her life on that day, her shopping list, who came to visit, the latest family happenings, vet appointments for her cats and if we visited we would write something in it.  As life went on we were given back the diaries and I have two which I sometimes get out and flick through my children have taken them to school as show and tell.  One of the diaries is for the year I was married.

The lady was overwhelmed with my story about my grandmother's diaries which has made me feel the diaries are even more valuable.  She thanked me profusely and told me she was going shopping for her first diary to pass on to her grandchild.  With all that nostalgia I thought some of you may like the idea and want to do the same for your kids and grandchildren.
