Gladesville Market & Hubertus Country Club Markets,


Saturday

 What a beautiful day it was,  the sun shining and a light breeze.  The day was spent at such a cute little market about twenty stalls which included farmers, cheese stalls, nuts,
coffee, bakers and a scrumptious BBQ.

The market is run by Organic Food Markets who run markets at Chatswood, Double bay, Frenches Forest,   Gladesville,  Hornsby,  Kings Cross, Leichhardt, Marrickville,  and Newcastle

 We were off to Hubertus Country Club Markets, 205 Adams Road,
 Luddenham another beautiful day spent out in the country. A small market with a very country feel, a mixture of trash N treasure, homemade jams, soaps and crochet things.

Camden Markets and a tip from another stall holder about PayPal

Well I woke up to my husband saying "it's raining do you think the market will be on!" ..... most markets do run in the rain and I have been lucky enough to get through past rainy markets without it hampering our day.    NOT today we arrived to a light sprinkle that gradually became heavier it was not long before the first stall holder decided that it was not worth being there.  We were to come to the same conclusion a short time later.

Most of the people there wondering around were other stall holders.  I had a great conversation with a  stall holder who gave me one of the best tips, his tip is just fantastic for little businesses who are out and about and need credit card facilities... this new facility, PayPal  are offering sounds fantastic. A rival to the banks and their eftpos machines that are expensive to have.

PayPal  are offering a credit card reader that attaches to your phone (the phone of the merchant) and your customers can pay by credit card where ever you are, simply by swiping the card and your customer signing the screen of your phone using their finger, the money is deposited into the merchants PayPal account.  According to this stall holder who started using it last week the money did take about 3 days to reach their PayPal account, however since this was sales they would have missed by not having credit card facilities they were happy to wait the few days. I have registered for it, so I shall see how I go.

On the Paypal link it states "Manually entered and scanned cards incur a 2.9%+ $0.30 fee per transaction*"

I would like to know if anyone else has feedback on this.  I am just so impressed because the bank fees especially in the current economic times are a so high.

Connecting Carers, NSW

Thank you to everyone who donated items for me to pass onto Connecting Carers  NSW  Jill came today and took another load of items from my garage to take on her next trip out west supporting the foster carers and in particular kinship carers (carers looking after children related to them).





Kinship carers are growing in numbers as grandparents step up to care for numerous grandchildren with little or no government help, this is no small job at their age and in many cases 3 or more children are in their care. No-one knows where general foster carers (not kinship carer) live, we don't have to deal with family members turning up and demanding to see children in states that are not ideal and then leave after causing havoc. Kinship carers have to deal with this, try to calm kids down who just don't understand or see why they can not live with their parents in some cases these grandparents have had to call police to remove their son or daughter to protect their grandkids. Kinship carers are SAINTS! 

Jill and Kaye sort, fold, pack in sizes, put into plastic bags and seal, so they are presented as quality items which they are, therefore don't look in the least bit like second hand items.  A lot of the items aren't second hand. Any shoes are boxed. Some of this goes to the Mission's where Jill visits in Kinship/foster carers in the far west of NSW.  Just another small service of Connecting Carers. NSW.


It is a privilege for me to support this charity and to give back for the support I have had in the past, if it were not for Jill I would not be a carer myself, I would have given up on my 2nd placement......some 18 children ago.

Blacktown Markets 10th June 2012



Sunday 10th June 2012 I woke up to find it had been raining through the night  "It's raining, it's pouring the old man is snoring, he bumped his head on the end of the bed and couldn't get up in the morning!"  (do you remember this little nursery rhyme!) With the overnight rain and a cloudy morning sky you are left with the predicament, do I pack everything and go or give it a miss. I rang the wet weather line for Blacktown Markets and was told the market will be running as it was not raining there.

With the decision made that the market will run the kids and I were on our way, we arrived with out the rain and found our spot right next door to Kim who makes her own banana bread and Italian biscuits,  I had met here last week at Ettalong Markets. That is the amazing thing about the market scene it is one big happy family.

We set up and had a great day the rain stayed away until about 12.30 when a light mist started, I decided to pack up and leave before the rain became any heavier.  It was a great market, a mixture of old and new the kind of place a recycler like me would find something interesting for the garden or house.

North Sydney Market on Miller


Today I was at a wonderful market North Sydney Market on Miller.  My stall was surrounded by some of the most beautiful and interesting stalls to my left was www.carpetsforcommunities.org who sell mats made by mothers in Cambodia affected by poverty.  They were so bright and looked beautiful.

To my right was Karla  www.reiandty.com with her handbag shoes, little flat shoes that you can store in your handbag for the lunch time dash instead of wearing your heals or if you out partying all night and on the way home want to wear a little flatty. 

They had several live bands and musicians in the park playing all day, some were walking amongst the stalls playing their instruments.  Quite a few people sat on the slops of the park with something yummy to eat.

The food was to die for, I had an almond croissant from www.brasseriebread.com.au who won prizes at the Sydney Easter Show and it's no wonder.

Their next market is on the 14th July 2012, Bastille Day the market is promoting the day as bring a blanket and picnic lunch to enjoy the entertainment so if you are free next month I think it will be a very relaxing day out. I'm just sorry I won't be there, I'll be in Mudgee.

Application for Moocooboola Hunter's Hill Festival who have a pollution & Waste policy


I have just filled out an application for the Moocooboola Hunter's Hill Festival Boronia Park Ovals, Hunters Hill and part of the application states no plastic bags, avoid unnecessary packaging. no polystyrene etc etc this is the first market where unnecessary waste has been stipulated I think it is great.  I have to say I can not help myself when I drive past other peoples rubbish piles and it never ceases to amaze me the things that get thrown away.  My Grandmother "Gin" (pronounced Giin not Jin) kept everything and I mean everything her house was like a museum of things that had been past down for generations or things we had given her..... she was definately a horder which I think came from living through the depression. My house is full of second hand furniture and bits and pieces I alway wonder what happen to the people of owned it or made it, where has it been.


I though I would share with you some of the things I have from my roadside shopping trips, much to my childrens horror.......

These two matching perspex stands were straight of the rubbish pile 1 block from my house and fit my Gametags in as if they were made for them.



This large glass lamp (now without electrical) was picked up off a rubbish pile thrown in a park at Greenacre and is just fantasitic as a garden feature.  It was pouring with rain and I was with my cousin dropping her car to the mechanics when I saw it.  I told her to stay in the car I would just toss it in the back seat.  Ha Ha Ha LOL LOL it weighted a tonne, hundreds of little glass pieces wired together, I cut my hand trying to get it into the car even with the assistance of my cousin, we both got drenched and had to put a thick blanket down on the seat to prevent any damage. But I have to say well worth it eveyone comments on it in the garden.




My absolutely favourite piece of road side junk, is my day bed which my husband made for me from road side rubbish I collected.  The legs are off a waterbead, the draws from a dressing table, the side rails from old 1970's saloon/kitchen doors, the piece of carved wood at the back from my great uncles estate, the fly net hook is solid brass and was dug up from our garden, not visible but behind the cushions at the back are two old hand carved chairs (just the back support piece of the chairs).  In summer I do love laying out on it with a book.....Life doesn't get much better!
